Since its creation, LinkedIn has presented itself as a free tool for these users. But the latest restrictions announced and the takeover by Microsoft could put an end to this model. To put it simply, LinkedIn has operated since its creation by relying on a free business model for users with paid solutions for businesses. On LinkedIn, it was possible, with a free account: To create your profile. Add attachments. To develop your network. To communicate by relaying content. To know who came to his profile. To use the internal search engine to find profiles. To consult the profiles of almost everyone. LinkedIn blocked access to level 3 profile information to those who did not have a premium membership; but there were tips that made it easy to get around this blockage.
This business approach to LinkedIn allowed everyone to use the tool without any real Email Data limits; to develop its activity there; to find a job or recruit. About 18 months ago, LinkedIn announced two changes: Access to full profiles of the entire network (including level 3). A change which was not really a change, since this blocking of LinkedIn was easily circumvented. Monthly Search Usage Limits: “Increased network visibility will include a limit on searches used for commercial purposes (recruiting and selling). (…) Once the limit is reached, you will still be able to conduct research, but you will obtain fewer results. So you can wait for the search to reset the following month, or you can upgrade to a Business Plus, Sales Navigator or Recruiter account to benefit from unlimited search.
If we decode this announcement: “the increased visibility of the network will include a limit on searches”: as indicated previously, we already had this increased visibility on your network. LinkedIn just made it easier, but that's not really a new thing. “searches used for commercial purposes (recruiting and selling)”: I don’t really see what determines this type of search. We subsequently learned that the criterion chosen was the number of monthly searches. However, a high number of searches does not mean, as LinkedIn indicates, that it is a question of salesperson or recruiter behavior. Indeed, I meet many executives in transition who actively use the search engine in their job search efforts. “or you can upgrade.
